License to Kill, Maim, and Get Rich

How does a corporation get a license to kill, maim, and get rich without having to pay for a license to kill, maim, and get rich?

Easy.  Enact legislation that will protect it from the consequences of killing and maiming.

If you intentionally, or even carelessly, kill or maim someone, the offended can hold you responsible.  They can sue you for damages.  And you may have to pay BIG! And that can keep you from getting rich.  But even if you don’t, you have to pay to defend yourself.

So how do you escape the consequences of killing and maiming without passing the “Escape the Consequences of Killing and Maiming” bill?  Easy, call it “Tort Reform”

Enact legislation to reduce or eliminate the injured parties’ right to sue you.  Put a cap on what it can cost you to kill and maim.  And make it low enough that you can afford to pay it as a cost of doing business.  Then you can go right on killing and maiming to your heart’s content.

Because if you get the cap low enough, there won’t be enough money for the contingency lawyers to take the cases.  So you not only reduce the amount of damages you have to pay in case you lose, you eliminate the cost of the trial in the first place because no one can afford to file a suit.

When you’ve accomplished that, you’re completely free from the consequences of killing and maiming, and there’s no one to stop you from getting as rich as you can dream!

But how would you get people to go along with that?

Easy.  Campaign to eliminate “Frivolous Lawsuits.”  That way, if a toxic release from your chemical plant kills and maims ten thousand people or poisons the atmosphere for two generations, you’ll avoid the nuisance of “frivolous lawsuits.”

But who would do such a thing?

Only those who are pushing “Tort Reform.”
